Our Project
In this project we were tasked with finding an ecosystem or species that is endangered of close to being endangered and help save that species or ecosystem. My group decided to save the arctic fox. We spent a couple days on research and then got to work. We made posters to raise awareness, we made a website that allowed people to donate, we made a pamphlet to pass around to the class, and we made a presentation to show to the class.

Cycles of Energy and Matter.
Energy |
Matter |
Energy on Earth all comes from the sun. The producers take in light and use it to store energy. Then the first level consumers eat them to get energy. Then the second level consumers consume them and finally the top level consumers consume them. Every level only 10% of the energy is transferred.
|
Matter is anything that takes up space. The most pure form of matter are elements. Atoms are one element. Molecules are compounds of atoms.
|
Water CycleThe water cycle is the the cycle of water on Earth. The arctic fox is affected by the water cycle because climate change has caused there to be more snow melt. More runoff has caused the water levels to change. The arctic fox has to adjust to the different levels of water.
|
Carbon CycleThe carbon cycle is the cycle of carbon on Earth. Normally carbon is stuck under the Earth and then slowly released into the air, but human burning of fossil fuels is speeding up the process. This is increasing climate change which is melting the arctic foxes habitat.

Ecology Vocab
Individual-a singular organism
Population-a group of individuals Community-different populations interacting with each other Ecosystems-abiotic and biotic things interacting Environment-everything that surrounds an organism Biome-a group of different ecosystems Biosphere-where all living things on Earth live Carrying capacity-The amount of certain organisms that can live in an environment before they could not withstand the amount of organisms and population growth halts |
Food Webs and Pyramids
A food web or pyramid shows the transfer of energy between organisms. The Autogrophs are the producers. The heterotrophs are the consumers. At each trophic level only 10% of energy is transferred. An energy pyramid shows the amount of energy at each level where as a biomass pyramid shows the amount of mass at each level.
Photosynthesis and Cellular Respiration
Photosynthesis is the process in which plants convert carbon dioxide and water into oxygen and glucose using light from the sun.
Cellular respiration is the opposite function and results in the inputs of photosynthesis as well as the creation of ATP. ATP is a way to store energy that will allow an organism to use it later. Both plants and animals do cellular respiration. |
Relationships between organisms
Mutualism: Both organisms benefit from each other.
Competition: Both organisms are negatively affected.
Commension: One organism gains but at no cost to the other.
Parasitism: One organism gains at the cost of another.

Reflection
I did some things well, but some things I could improve upon. Two things I did well were leaving time at the end to practice our presentation and focusing completely on finishing the project on time. I left time at the end to practice our presentation which allowed my group to present our project a lot better and allow us to convey our information better. I also focused on working well so we would finish the project on time.
I also did some things bad. I split my focus on to many different things. My group mad many different things which meant we could not work as well as we should have on specific parts of the project. I also followed too many paths that ended up being nothing. For example I made a patreon page that we never ended up using. This caused me to waste time that we could have used to make our project better.
